Mixed team events in the junior calendar 2016-2017
Mixed team events by team consisting of 6 fencers (1 fencer per weapon) was successfully tested in Tashkent (2015) and Bourges (2016) during the cadet competition. As acceptance has been positive overall, the decision was taken to keep this type of mixed team event in the programme for the World Championships for juniors and cadets 2017.
In 2015, the Executive Committee decided to test another competition formula for mixed teams in which the teams consist of 2 boys and 2 girls at the same weapon, possibly with 1 boy and 1 girl as substitutes. During the season 2015‐2016, this formula was successfully tested on the European cadet circuit.
In February 2016, the Executive Committee decided to continue the tests during junior competitions in the 2016-2017 season. It approved the junior calendar for the 2016‐2017 season for each weapon as follows:
• 8 individual competitions
• 5 traditional team competitions + 3 mixed team competitions
